Leopoldo Lomeli

Biography

Leopoldo Lomelí is a Mexican artist, born in Coahuila in 1946. His work is rooted in painting, printmaking, and mixed media, and is recognized for its exploration of Cubist forms. Through fragmented planes, geometric structures, and layered compositions, Lomelí reinterprets landscapes and familiar subjects with a modern visual language.

His paintings balance a playful yet disciplined brushwork with carefully considered color, shape, and spatial rhythm. Rather than reproducing a scene literally, he breaks it into simplified forms and overlapping perspectives, allowing each work to feel both structured and expressive. Lomelí’s art reflects a thoughtful dialogue between theory and visual experimentation, creating works with depth, movement, and a distinct Mexican modernist character.
